Russ aka "Junior" grew up in Skiddy, Kansas and graduated from White City High School in 1948. He loved to play sports and was known as one of the "Hunter boys' athletes". Russ moved his family from Council Grove, Kansas to Fort Collins, CO in January 1960 and was a part of a growing community. He was the regional salesman for the Standard Oil Company for 11 years. He changed career paths when Standard Oil wanted him to move to Salt Lake City, UT and he thought it would be tough on his family to uproot them. His wife, Josephine had a good friend, Nancy Bartran and she asked her to ask her husband if he could find Russ a job and he said maybe. He started with Bartran Homes in 1966 and worked with Bill for 10 years. In 1976 he founded Russ Hunter Realty and ran it for 6 years and in 1982 he joined The Group and worked with them for 38 years. He retired from The Group, Inc. on December 10, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Gregory, parents, Russell F. Hunter and Edna (Kohler), brothers, Lloyd and his spouse Helen, Don and his spouse Virginia, a brother in law George "Pinky" Hickman and most recently his brother Calvin.
He is survived by his sister Shirley Hickman, son Stephen Hunter and his wife Peggy, daughters Cheryl Conant and John Esbensen and Nancy Hunter, 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, sisters in law Eunice Hunter, Darlene Meyer and Carol Lee and spouse Roger. Along with numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, wonderful friends and colleagues.
He loved life, sports, family and friends.
The family requests In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either: St. John's Lutheran Church Foundation, or Grace Christian Church #92.
Russ's wishes were to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held: Saturday July 6, 2019 at the Timberline Church in Ft. Collins, CO at 10:00 a.m.
