A well-loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was born in Galesburg, IL in 1939, and soon moved as a baby with her mother- Elsie Isaacson, father- George Isaacson, and older brother-Theodore Isaacson to Denver, where she was raised. Her mother, Elsie, died when she was 14. Her father never re-married. She attended and graduated East High School, and was a member of Warren Methodist Church. At church she met and fell in love with a South High School young man named Clarence Edward Hockom (Ed), who she married after graduating, in 1957. She remained married to Ed for 62 years, prior to his death from Alzheimer's in 2020. Ruth and Ed had two children, Edward (Eddie) and Jill. They became grandparents during the 80’s and 90’s . Unfortunately their son was killed in the line of duty with the Aurora Police department in a gun battle with an armed robber in 1987 at the age of 29.
During their married years, they relocated from Denver to Roswell, GA, back to Denver, and then to Novato, CA, and back to Denver, due to Ed’s job transfers. They then relocated to Fort Collins in 2001, after Ed retired. Ruth joined the Fort Collins New Comers group and quickly found several good friends, including the Five for Lunch bunch, several quilting groups, and some very nice neighbors.
Ruth was an excellent seamstress, and prolific quilter. In their former Fort Collins home she had an entire room, with a large walk-in closet filled with threads and fabrics, devoted to her quilting hobby. She won an award from the Colorado Quilting Council for her Remembering Dear Jane quilt that ended up being displayed at the Colorado State Capital from July 29th-October 10th 2013. She also excelled at baking, which was necessary to feed her husband, nicknamed “the Cookie Monster”. She was very warm-hearted and friendly, and had an excellent sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, husband, and son. She is survived by their son, Edward Hockom’s, married children, Joshua, married to Amy (Maryland), and Erik, married to Allison (Aurora). Her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Gary Darling, and their two grown and married children Robert, married to Hannah, and Katie, married to Dylan Pellegrino, both reside in Timnath CO.
