She was born June 3, 1928 in Casper, WY to Mary S. & Harry S. Tsukishima. Following her graduation from Natrona County High School, she attended one semester at the University of Wyoming followed by living for some time in California. Upon her return to Wyoming, she married Takayuki Tanaka on August 24, 1952 and settled in Rock Springs. Ruth worked at Rock Springs National Bank for a number of years until her retirement, then she spent much of her time sewing as a hobby until she relocated to Fort Collins, CO in 2018 to be cared for by her children.
Ruth is survived by four children: Brenda Bennett (and husband Terry) of Cheyenne, WY; Maureen Tanaka; Gayle Tanaka (and partner Scott); and Warren Tanaka (and wife Kim) all from Fort Collins, CO. Also surviving her are eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a nephew. She is preceded in death by her husband, Takayuki; a daughter, Kerry Tanaka Wells; her parents; and one brother.
A graveside burial ceremony & inurnment of her ashes will take place at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery in Rock Springs, WY on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 11:00am.
