Sharon Patricia (O’Hearn) Hamann, 75, of Loveland, Colorado passed away on April 16, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born on October 27, 1942, to Nora and Eddie O’Hearn in Dickinson, North Dakota. Sharon was the youngest of four children. She grew up in Dickinson and went on to graduate from Dickinson Sate University with a teaching degree. She married her husband of 54 years, Gary Hamann, on March 14,1964. Together they had three children: Jill Amundson, John Hamann and Jennifer Sprague and four grandchildren: Josie Amundson, Christian, Shelby and Finn Sprague.
Sharon and Gary lived in Dickinson for over 50 years. When their kids were grown, Sharon started teaching in South Heart, where she taught for 10 years. Her students adored her and she loved them.
Upon retiring, Sharon and Gary decided to move to Arizona to pursue their shared passion for the outdoors and hiking. While they kept a home in Arizona for winters, they decided to move to Loveland, Colorado in 2000. They hiked and climbed mountain after mountain. Then at the age of 67, Sharon conquered her first ‘Fourteener’. The first of many.
Sharon and Gary’s home in Loveland was a happy gathering place for many friends and family. She loved to capture those fun times by taking pictures and turning them into beautiful scrapbooks, which will be cherished forever.
Sharon could not have been more proud of her grandchildren, and she played a joyful, nurturing role in all of their lives. She was always organizing arts and crafts projects, birthdays and holiday parties. She also loved the neighborhood children and their families, and often included them in the festivities.
She was dearly loved by so many nieces, nephews, friends, cousins, in-laws, siblings, and even by her doctors, nurses and care providers.
Sharon fought long and hard against the disease that eventually took her life, Multiple System Atrophy. She was still smiling at the end, with that twinkle in her eyes we all saw and loved.
Sharon is survived by her husband Gary, daughter Jill (Rick), son, John, and youngest daughter Jenny (Derek), her grandchildren, Josie, Christian, Shelby and Finn, sister Marge Swett and brother Dan O’Hearn. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kay Foster.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 on May 5th, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Fort Collins, CO. Please help us celebrate Sharon’s life with pictures and stories to share.
