

Shirley was born in Marion, Indiana on July 7, 1934 to George Joseph and Marie Ida May Latendresse. She was the fifth of eight children. She remained close to her siblings the entirety of their lives.
Shirley graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Academy in St Charles, IL. She moved with her family to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1953 and attended a year of College. In 1954 she married Paul E Giek in Moses Lake, WA. In 1968 Shirley and Paul loaded their eight kids into the station wagon and moved to Denver, CO. Her youngest child was born in 1969. She later divorced and raised her nine children independently. When her youngest child was in kindergarten, Shirley attended Emily Griffith Opportunity School and began her career as an executive secretary. She worked for Stearns Roger and retired from Raytheon/United Engineering in 1996.
Shirley was a coupon queen who enjoyed finding the best deals and sharing her bounty with her family. She had complete devotion to her Catholic faith. It sustained her and provided her comfort at all times in her life. She most enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took two dream trips. The first in 2000 where she visited family in Cairo, Egypt. Then she visited Rome. The highlight for her was walking through the Holy Door at the Vatican. The second trip in 2011 to the Holy Lands walking where Jesus walked.
Shirley’s son, Michael Giek; her parents, George and Marie; brothers, Clayton, Jules and John Latendresse; as well as sisters, Ramona Larson, Mary Sue Urban and Sister Eugenia (Jeanne Kathryn) Latendresse; son-in-laws, Don Bell and Larry Hawkins; and granddaughter, Shanoah Darrah-Scott preceded her in death.
Shirley leaves behind her sister, Joann Bosi; children, Jeanne (Tim) Iverson, Nancy (Robert) Forgue, Stephen Giek, Elizabeth (Herbert) Curtis, Mary (Edward) Berry, Margaret Giek, Paula (Steven) Shortreed, Melissa Giek; her grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, and James Bell, Joshua (Audra) Seiler, Ashly (Brad) Madden, Evan Forgue, Shane (Deanne) Snow, Ashley (Sean) Mackenzie, Allissa Carr, Heidi and Hayden Shortreed; her great grandchildren, Abby, Lilly, McKenzie, Kaden, Kiara,Elli, Ezzi, Ian, Kaylee, Isabel, Lily and Olivia.
Shirley passed surrounded by family, and we know she is having a joyful reunion with her son, brothers, sisters, parents and grandchild. She will watch over all of her loved ones and she will forever be the light in our hearts.
Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 10:00 am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish. 5450 S Lemay Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80525. Mass will begin at 10:30. Following, will be a reception for everyone to gather to share stories and memories of Shirley.
