Vernette Louise (Eng) was born May 1, 1924, on her family’s farm outside of Ida Grove, Iowa, to parents Hildred (Sacquety) and Carl Eng. She moved to Denver, Colorado in 1950 and married Francis L. Waugh on May 12, 1951, in Denver, Colorado. The couple moved first to Greeley, Colorado, in 1953, and then to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1961. Together, they raised two children, Linda and David. Vernette has been a resident of Fort Collins ever since.
Vernette worked as a Legal Secretary for 40 years. She volunteered in several Womens’ Circles at the First United Methodist Church, and she volunteered at Steele’s Market and Toddy’s Market filling grocery orders for shut-ins. In her free time, she enjoyed raising her family, sewing, quilting, playing cards, gardening, and volunteering.
Vernette was preceded in passing by her parents Carl and Hildred Eng, her husband of more than 50 years Francis, her twin sister Verneita Rehor, and her younger sister Margene O’Leary.
She is survived by her children Linda Volz and her husband Clifford, and David Waugh and his wife Judy; by her grandsons Scott Jungmeyer, Jason Jungmeyer, and Ehrich Weis and their spouses; and by her great-grandchildren Keaghan Jungmeyer, Conlan Jungmeyer, Adalie Weis, and Emmitt Weis.
A Public Visitation will be held at Allnutt Funeral Service – Drake Road Chapel, 650 W. Drake Rd, Fort Collins, Colorado, on October 6th, 2026 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Her Funeral Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover St, Fort Collins, Colorado, on October 7th, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., with a reception following from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Her final resting place will be be with her husband Francis in the Black Hills National Cemetery, in Sturgis, South Dakota.
