Virginia’s life began in Eastern Kansas on the Hamon family farm. Her nickname was “Sparkle” due to her shiny eyes. She graduated high school and became a secretary for federal agencies, retiring in 1994.
She met David Strnad in 1955 at a USO dance in Topeka, KS during the Korean War, and they married that year. Their daughter Kathleen was born in 1959. David died in a crop dusting plane accident in 1962, and Virginia and Kathleen moved to Colorado.
She met Harold Krug at a dance in 1966 and they married 3 months later to form a family with Kathleen and Harold’s daughter Diane Krug. They celebrated 54 years of marriage in December.
Virginia enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Oregon, Las Vegas, South Dakota, and the mountains. She especially enjoyed grandkids, computers, walking, and chocolate.
Passed family includes her parents George and Mary Hamon, daughter Diane Campbell-Stoakes, in-laws Charles and Bertha Strnad, and in-laws Henry and Mary Krug.
She is survived by husband Harold Krug, daughter Kathleen LaFollette (Leland), brothers George Hamon (Marie) and John Hamon, granddaughters Danielle Langston (Tim) and Brittney Harper (Aaron) with 3 great-granddaughters Taytum, Molly, and Vayda Harper, and grandson James Campbell (Amanda).
Services are on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526 with a 10:00 am family visitation hour followed by an 11:00 am memorial service. After the memorial service, the immediate family will depart to a graveside service for interment of the cremains at 2:15 pm in the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
