Born in Liberty, Kentucky on February 6, 1949, Wanda was the daughter of Ada (Scott) and Hershel Miller, who precede her in death. She was the third child in a family of nine. Her early years were spent on the farm in Kentucky, alongside her five brothers and three sisters. When Wanda was 12 years old, the Miller clan relocated to Northern Colorado where they had extended family, and where her father could find work.
Wanda graduated from Erie High School in 1967. It was at her graduation that she happened to meet her future husband, Larry Peter Herman. Though neither of them knew it at that time, they were going to fall in love later that summer. On September 13, 1969, Larry and Wanda were wed in Erie, Colorado and began building a life centered on family and faith. They welcomed two daughters, Paula and Mary. Wanda was blessed with the opportunity to stay home and raise her children. Larry and Wanda loved one another dearly. Life was not without its trials, but they committed to never falling asleep angry and always took care of each other.
As a mother, Wanda was both caring and firm. She taught her children the importance of being well-mannered and respectful of others. She strived for excellence and encouraged her children (and others) to do the same, and she did so with grace. She believed everything had a proper place, and that anything worth doing was worth doing right and doing well. Though a long-term illness could occasionally make her a little peevish, love was at the center of absolutely everything she did. She put family first and was a fierce defender of those she loved. She was always there for her daughters and was always the one they could come to and talk to.
Wanda was a deeply faithful woman who had a close, personal relationship with her Saviour. She was a full-bore Christian and a true prayer warrior. She read her Bibles (plural) every single day, making many notes over her lifetime. She lived her life as an active witness, offering words of wisdom to anyone who needed a listening ear. She was evangelical in her faith and never hid it away. She knew the joy of knowing Christ and wanted everyone around her to know it the same. Because of her powerful witness, others were saved and brought to know Jesus.
Wanda’s daily life was filled with simple pleasures, including tending to both her vegetable and flower gardens, reading her bible(s), and enjoying picnics and drives in the mountains. She loved playing card games like Old Maid with her grandchildren, decorating cookies with them at Christmas, and taking them to the park on Sundays after church. She loved being home, and with Larry.
Wanda was truly a people person in the purest sense. She always put others before herself. She was known to be ornery, spunky, and even a little feisty at times. Mostly she was humble, empathetic, compassionate, and kind. She was generous with her heart and gave her time freely. And she was forgiving, never holding onto past transgressions. The love she had for others was truly without condition. Wanda was remarkable woman who made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her loving husband of nearly 57 years, Larry Herman; and her daughters, Paula Perry (married to Christopher) and Mary Hanson (married to Dave). Her memory will be treasured by her grandchildren: Alexis, Samuel, Joshua, Hannah, and Jolene. Wanda is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Linda Fernandes (Ray) of Kansas City, Missouri; Herbert Miller of Loveland, Colorado; Don Miller of Greenwood, Indiana; Fred Miller (Amy) of Salt Flat, Texas; Carl Miller of Loveland, Colorado; Judy Absher (Danny) of Dunnville, Kentucky; Marvin Miller of Russell Springs, Kentucky; and Charlotte Parrot of Franklin, Indiana.
Services for Wanda will be held on Friday, June 26th, 2026 at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado, beginning with a Graveside Service at 9:30am. A Celebration of Wanda’s Life and Fellowship Gathering will follow at 10:30am.
