

Al was born in Hollywood, California to Mary Carletta Anderson and Alexander Henry Stensby on September 30, 1933. He graduated from the University of Santa Clara in California where he received a B. A. degree in history in 1955. Following his graduation from college, Al married Maureen O’Neill, was drafted to the United States Army and the couple moved to the East Coast. He served in the Army for several years. When his service was complete, he began work with McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach. He retired from McDonnell Douglas after working there for over 40 years. He raised his four children in Fullerton where he was an active volunteer in many organizations such as Little League, Boy Scouts and Bobby Sox. He was very involved in his parish, St. Philip Benizi, for almost 60 years. His first wife Maureen passed in 2007. In 2009, he was reacquainted with Joanne Schoeman, a parishioner at his parish. The two dated briefly and were married in 2010 where he inherited a wonderful extended family. Throughout his life, he loved to work on cars, ski, body surf & body board in the ocean and swim & dive in his pool. He reveled in teaching his children, the neighborhood kids and his grandchildren to appreciate the hobbies he loved.
Al is preceded in death by his parents Carletta and Henry Stensby, his older brother Richard Henry Stensby, his younger sister Carletta Mary Stensby and his first wife Maureen Elizabeth O’Neill Stensby.
Al is survived by his wife, Joanne Schoeman, his sister Veronica Stensby and his children, Karen Welch (Jim), Daniel Stensby, Monica Vaughn and Matthew Stensby. His stepchildren, Randy Schoeman (Angela), Ken Schoeman (Wendy), Ron Schoeman, Lorine Gloady (Rick) and Gary Schoeman (Christina). He has seven grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Al was a loving husband, father, Papa, uncle and friend. He was a good and gracious man. He touched many lives with his kind heart and enthusiasm for life. He was extremely faithful and he loved big. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The Rosary and funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday May 27, 2021 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Fullerton, California.
