Alice G. (Lae) Blood peacefully passed away on September 8, 2021. Alice was born on April 23, 1925 and raised in Fullerton, California on a ranch just outside of town. Her parents were Grace and Louis Lae. Her grandfather, Joseph Lae, immigrated to Orange County in 1885 from southwestern France and worked for the Bastanchury ranch. She lived nearly all of her life in Fullerton. At the ranch she helped raise the livestock that supplemented the family income. Little lambs and goats were her favorite and she loved to tell stories of taking care of them. County fairs were among her favorite places and she reveled in telling her children and grandchildren what she knew about each animal. She also learned how to clean and dress fish and game growing up at the ranch and many a weekend was spent putting away chickens, ducks and beef in the family locker. Her home was the gathering place for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner and she had one of the best enchilada recipes. She loved camping in Baja California and was a great surf fisher, too.
Alice attended Fullerton schools and left high school when she was 16 to embark on a career packing fruit. She worked as far north as Lindsey in the central California valley and returned to Fullerton and spent many years at the Eadington packing house on Commonwealth Avenue. Good oranges and avocados were always a staple at home. In 1945, she married Calvin Blood and subsequently raised two children, Mary Ann Sanchez (Oscar) of Capistrano Beach and Calvin L. Blood (Debbie) of Seattle, WA. She is survived by them as well as three granddaughters. Alice recently became a great-grandmother. Her husband of over 60 years, Calvin, preceeded her in death, as did two of her brothers, Richard Lae and Fred Lae. She is also survived by her eldest brother, Louis. Alice lived her life as she wished and will be missed by family and friends.
