

On September 29, former Orange County Superior Court Judge Allen Kelley Stone passed away with his family by his side. Al was born in 1931 in El Centro, California. Al had a very challenging childhood. He was one of fourteen children and at the age of 8 his father died. Shortly thereafter Al went to work to help support his family as they grew up in the San Joaquin Valley. Al was a NAVY veteran and served in the South Pacific. After the NAVY, he joined the LAPD and retired in 1976. Wanting to contribute to his community, Al became a lawyer and served as a Public Defender, then private practice. In 1990 Al took the bench in the Orange County Superior Court where he retired in 2009. He was well known as a very fair judge with a big heart and compassion. Dr. Stone spent 9 years as a professor of business management at Santiago Canyon College and was a favorite among students there. He achieved many accomplishments throughout his lifetime including awards for competitive swimming for the LAPD Olympics. He was a talented artist with a house full of beautiful paintings. Al’s favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, and visiting Hawaii with his wife Charline. He was also very interested in cars with a prized Mazda 1991 that he customized like a Ferrari. Al’s motto was “keep moving” which he did until his passing at age 86. Al is survived by his wife, Charline of 40 years and children Mark Stone (wife Vanessa), Sherri Lerch (husband Dan), Michael Lynn (wife Susie), and Dawn-Michelle Walter( husband Rich).
