Angeline “Angie” Virginia McAfee Schy joined the angels in heaven on August 18, 2021. Angie was born the middle daughter of three girls on November 11, 1927 in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania to Italian immigrant parents. Her grade and high school years were spent in Bridgeville. Angie met and married her former husband Donald McAfee, and together they traveled west to California and ultimately settled in Orange County. Soon after, Angie welcomed four daughters over the course of six years, Kristin, Susan, Kathy, & Janice.
While the girls were still young, Angie worked as a high school principal’s secretary, sold real estate, and gracefully managed her lively all female household. As a strong and independent woman, she led her daughters by example, staying active in her Lutheran faith, making and keeping cherished friendships, and always learning, traveling, and expanding her horizons. As the McAfee girls grew older and eventually left home, Angie never slowed down. She continued to work, even after retirement, as a volunteer at St Jude’s Hospital in Fullerton. She took time to travel the world, but was happy to return home to Southern California to spend time with family and friends.
Angie made her physical health a priority, exercising regularly. She spent time with her daughters and their families often. The gatherings usually included meals she made from her Italian cookbook or her childhood memories. Gnocchi, ravioli, and biscotti were just a few homemade items that “Ma” (as her daughters called her) shared from her kitchen and taught her daughters to prepare.
In 2017, Angie sold her home in Fullerton and moved to The Meridian senior living community in Anaheim Hills, where she settled into a wonderful, relaxing environment. She added new friends and acquaintances at her new home. The most unexpected and sweetest of these additions was Carl Schy, a fellow resident. Angie and Carl’s fast friendship developed into a tender, considerate love that they sealed with a kiss and marriage in 2018. They complimented each other in the very best ways, always at each other’s side.
Angie will always be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband, Carl Schy, her daughters, Kristin Black, (Jim), Susan Parke (Robert), Kathy McBenttez, & Janice Cohen (Robert). Angie “Grandma” will be fondly missed by grandchildren Jason Goss, Brandon Goss (Rachel), James Black (Jessica), Taylor Schwer (Eric), Alan McBenttez, Angela Griffin (Mitch), Alex Cohen, & Amber McBenttez. Angie “Gigi” was so loved by great grandchildren Kaitlyn Goss, Wyatt Goss, Jayla Black, Jenna Black, Alise Griffin, Eli Griffin, James Black, & Edan Schwer.
