Born and raised in Los Angeles, Aurora was the eldest daughter in a vibrant family of seven children, alongside three brothers and three sisters. From an early age, she learned the values of family, sacrifice, and devotion, stepping up to help raise her younger siblings.
At age 24, Aurora married the love of her life, Ben Pizano. After starting their journey in East Los Angeles, they settled into their forever home in Fullerton in early 1956. Together, they built a warm, loving life for their four children: Esther, Andrew, Anthony, and Ben. Having grown up with very little, Aurora was determined to give her children every opportunity for a brighter future. She balanced working outside the home with managing a busy household, always ensuring her family was cared for and loved.
Aurora was defined by her untiring energy and zest for life. She was happiest when moving—going to the gym where she met with her friends although mostly to socialize, tending to her vibrant rose garden, meticulously maintaining her home, or cooking for those she loved. No guest ever entered her home without being immediately offered a warm meal. A devout woman of faith, she was a faithful parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fullerton for decades.
Among her greatest joys was hitting the open road in her motorhome as a proud member of the Good Sam Camping Club. Aurora loved inviting friends and family along for camping trips, as well as making frequent trips to Las Vegas to play at Circus Circus casino. Whether enjoying a Bloody Mary, a Margarita, or a cold beer in her later years, she brought joy, warmth, and fun wherever she went.
Aurora’s strength was tested in the early 1990s when her husband of 50 years was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She cared for Ben with unwavering loyalty until his passing in 2001. Though grieving, she navigated life’s transitions with grace, surrounded by loving friends like Earl Hoffman and Josie Martinez, as well as her dedicated children. Her deep maternal instinct never faded; even in her advanced years, she remained a fierce protector and caregiver to her youngest son, Ben.
Aurora lived a magnificent, full century. She is survived by her daughter, Esther; her sons, Andrew, Anthony, and Ben; 10 grandchildren: David, Erika, Andy, Marc, Joey, Shannon, Alicia, Kandyce, Alexia, and Kaylee; three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Tlaili and Ixaya; and one great-great-grandchild, Ezra.
Aurora was truly one of a kind. Her remarkable legacy, strength, and love will remain in our hearts forever.
