Bob was the third son born to Lois and Eldin Murray on September 4, 1948. He and his brothers grew up playing organized sports and street ball games until the lights came on signaling it was time to finally go home. As young boys, they enjoyed large family gatherings on both sides of the family, where a variety of sporting events eventually gave way to family card games that could go on for hours. His love of athletics led to playing high school football and baseball. That passion continued as he played baseball at Cypress JC and Cal State Fullerton. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict aboard the USS Midway (recently recommissioned) in the South China Sea, Philippine Islands, Japan, and Hawaii. Military service gave him a new appreciation for his country and helped him form good habits that would sustain him for the rest of his life.
Married for over 52 years, Bob and Cindy met while in college, married shortly after graduation, and a growing family was soon to follow. He joined Big 5 Sporting Goods and a 38+ year career ensued which led to a few moves around Southern California as he advanced through the ranks having a successful career and ending as a District Sales Supervisor.
The blessing of 3 children, Kerry, Katie and Jeffrey, brought great joy to his life. He loved supporting them in all their endeavors, be it coaching Little League or cheering them on from the sidelines. That joy and practice continued with 7 grandchildren. Bob and Cindy both came into the Catholic Church in 1981. As his faith grew and developed, so did his desire to serve. He joined the Knights of Columbus and actively supported his council in a wide variety of programs.
It was the simple things that brought joy to his life. His faith, his family and friends, camping trips, a sunset, a good glass of wine, oatmeal cookies, strawberry ice cream, golf outings, and PEOPLE. Bob loved chatting it up with everyone.
Bob was a GOOD GUY! A good husband, a great Dad and Papa, a God-fearing man who loved the Lord, a veteran, …someone who’d listen if you wanted to talk.
