Boyd S. Keyes, devoted and loving husband of 59 years to Lula Mae Keyes, Father of Stephen Keyes & Melodie Keyes Pittman, Father-in-Law of Ed Pittman, Grandfather of Linnea & Zack Adamson, Asa Keyes and Candice, Brynn, Lindsie & Zachary Pittman, Brother to Zelda Scott, David Keyes and Juanita Gill, died peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in Fullerton, CA with his family by his side. Boyd was born in Hazlehurst, MS in 1921. Boyd met Lula Mae when he hired her at General Electric in 1941 and told his co-workers after the interview - "I just hired my wife!" They fell in love and married in June, 1942 just before he deployed for duty as he served proudly in WWII as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps. After returning from the war in 1945, he completed his college education and went to work for North American Rockwell. They moved to Columbus, OH where Stephen & Melodie were born, then moved to California where they lived the remainder of their lives. Boyd was an engineer on all of the Apollo space projects. He was very proud of the space program and retired in 1984. After his retirement, he and Lula Mae were very involved with their church, First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, CA and served the Lord in various ministries both in the church and on their own. They were very much a part of their grandchildren's lives and enjoyed traveling. Boyd spent his 95 years with a constant exuberance for life, family and for Christ! He had an amazing sense of humor throughout his life, up until the very end. He was a faithful husband, the best father and grandfather, amazing provider and steadfast rock to his family. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. He will be sorely missed. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife Lula Mae Keyes, son Stephen Keyes and parents Jesse & Catherine Keyes. A graveside service will be at Riverside NA Cemetery on Tues, December 27, 2016 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to LBDA Lewy Body Dementia Association or The American Cancer Society. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: And not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8
