David was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 22, 1937. David graduated from Johnson High School in 1956 and enlisted in US Army in 1957 as a SFC until his honorable discharge in 1959 he assisted in communications operations. He then took a position in Fargo, ND as a DJ, at a local radio station for a few years until moving back to St. Paul. Upon returning home, he accepted a position working with the Mosler Safe Company and started his career in sales, service rep, coordinator and project specialist positions. David installed and serviced alarm systems all over Minnesota, North Dakota, and Mexico and Israel. David had a passion for people, and this proved to be a useful tool in his career path.
In 1981 David relocated to the San Francisco area as he was promoted to a commercial account executive. His love of the climate and the state of California began here. This was no surprise as when people encountered Dave he would shake your hand, look you in the eye and say. “David Lobinsky, pleased to meet you!”
David then relocated to the Anaheim/ Fullerton area in 1991 where he continued his work until retiring several years later. David decided that Minnesota winters along with cold temperatures and snow was best left in his past. He always returned to Minnesota multiple times a year for holidays, and family events and gatherings until his health prevented him from traveling as much.
Even after his retirement, David took a job as a courier for Siliker and worked for the last 10 years driving all over southern California and to the Mexico/US border. David was not a person who sat still he enjoyed being busy.
David enjoyed people and was an extrovert and a kind and welcoming person. He loved to laugh, partake in wine and signature drinks with Vodka, and meeting people. Dave enjoyed playing golf, cooking and watching sports. He especially enjoyed football, hockey and baseball. He followed all the Anaheim and California teams, the Mighty Ducks, the LA Dodgers, the San Jose Sharks, and the San Francisco 49ers. However, he never forgot his Midwest roots and enjoyed watching his beloved hometown teams, the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Minnesota North Stars and the Minnesota Wild. He also loved the Chicago Blackhawks (which no one really in Minnesota understood). Dave was watching the World Series from his hospital room and was cheering the LA Dodgers on fully. Dave could be seen often wearing his jerseys from his favorite teams and the same glasses chain that he wore around his neck for over 50 years.
David was quick witted, a true salesman in his approach to people and a friend to many. In true “ Minnesoooootan” fashion, he was known for saying coined terms such as “You Betcha” when speaking to friends and family. He also often spoke to his brothers he referred to them as “Big Time”, and his “Knupers” He loved to cook and was known for dirtying every pan in the kitchen when he did. He came into a room with a dry sense of humor and a big smile. He was very patriotic and often had the American flag displayed outside his condo and wore clothing and hats with American flags on them.
David spent a lot of time as a member of the Fullerton Elks and first joined the Elks in 1984, continuing being a member until his death. He spoke of this often and told us that when we came to visit, he would “take us to the Elks. “He spent many evenings there, sitting on his regular bar stool, visiting with countless friends that were like family and attended functions, even inspiring a menu of rubbed chicken wings that we are told holds a place on the menu to this day. Dave was known as “Davey” to them affectionately.
In October of 2011 Dave married Jill Tooman and they continued to live in Fullerton, California. As his family we embraced Jill, and we remember him telling us about this several months after the marriage. This was classic Dave; no frills just get it done! Dave lovingly referred to Jill as his “child bride” and was very endearing and affectionate when speaking about her. Dave cared for her when her health suffered and was always by her side.
David was proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Esther Lobinsky, his brother Micheal Lobinsky, and youngest brother Peter Lobinsky. David is survived by his wife Jill Tooman, her daughter Stacy (Chad) Jones, Niece Linda (Anton) Petersen, Nephew Mike (Paula) Lobinsky, Niece Marissa (Jon) Robenhagen, and Nephew Damen (Janka) Lobinsky. He is also survived by several great nieces, nephews and countless friends.
