Our mother was truly a remarkable woman; she brought joy and energy to every situation. Despite her petite stature, she was a guiding force for our extensive family. Estella, descended from a lineage of resilient women, acquired a diverse range of skills, including jewelry making, canning, welding, fishing, gardening, crocheting, cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, dancing, camping, and traveling. She possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of various subjects. She was exceptionally skilled at spelling, and family members were often hesitant to compete with her, as she was almost certain to win, much like a jackpot at a casino.
Mom had several memorable catch phrases that we will always cherish, such as "All that meat and no potatoes," "What you talking about Willis," "Here's mud in your eyes," and "Google it."
She often shared her spiritual strength, discussing her life and her journey of faith with God, particularly when facing obstacles. She would explain how she found strength and persevered, imparting this wisdom to us. She would often say, "Be patient and have faith; everything will eventually resolve itself."
These were her genuine words, teaching us to be independent and resilient. Estella Edna Rose Martinez was a beautiful and wonderful mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and a true friend, not only to us but also to friends of friends and even those she briefly encountered. She lived a full life until our Savior called her home.
