Eugene Fagins

Eugene Fagins, tenderly known as "Gene", passed away on July 23, 2026. Born May 30, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama, Gene will be remembered as a cherished presence—gentle in spirit, kind-hearted in his everyday ways, and steady in the quiet generosity he offered to others.

Eugene pursued his education with determination and pride, graduating from West LA College in 1975 with an AA in Arts, and later earning a BS in Public Administration from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1978—milestones that reflected his hard-working nature and commitment to building a meaningful life.

Over the years, Eugene brought diligence and care to every role he held. He worked for the Postal Office for many years before joining Zee Medical Supplies and a dental company, where his drive and skill led him to become the top salesman. In time, his compassionate heart drew him toward service that asked for more than effort—it asked for tenderness. He went on to work selflessly as a caregiver to the elderly and with Meals on Wheels, offering comfort and practical help with the same gentle reliability that defined him. Gene also served as a dedicated MP in the United States Army, carrying that sense of duty with quiet strength.

Gene found joy in the simple, familiar pleasures that bring people together. He loved to throw card parties, play bid whist, and cheer on the Los Angeles Lakers. He enjoyed eating iced oatmeal cookies and cooking spaghetti and other delicious meals, and he collected artsy old clocks—small treasures that suited his warm, personal style. And for those who knew him best, Gene’s humor was unmistakable: a sarcastic remark, a well-timed roll of the eyes, a bite of the bottom lip and suddenly the room would be filled with laughter.

Eugene was preceded in death by his mother, Pernina; his father, Otis; and his brother, Elvin. He is survived by his brother Albert (Barbara), his sister Lillian, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Family was everything to Gene. With that in mind, the countless times his brother Albert drove to care for him and visit him stands as a true expression of selfless love—an enduring testament to the bonds Gene valued most. Eugene’s legacy lives on in the love he gave, the kindness he showed, and the laughter he could summon in an instant.
