Francis Daniel Fanelli

Francis Daniel “Frank” Fanelli, peacefully passed away on September 1, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange, California, at the remarkable age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of a life well-lived. A long time resident of Yorba Linda, Frank’s life included service to his country, and a career as a dedicated aerospace engineer with a sharp mind, technical curiosity, and commitment to innovation.

Born on June 8, 1931, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Frank was the third of four children born to Leonard Daniel and Pauline Frances Fanelli. He grew up in Jersey City and graduated from Lincoln High School, surrounded by the love and lively spirit of his siblings—brother Joseph and sisters Josephine and Jean.

Frank took great pride in his military service, a story he loved to share. He served in both the Navy and the Army! Immediately after high school, determined to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Joey, he enlisted in the United States Navy at just 17 years old. Though his age was soon discovered, he completed nearly a year of service and was honorably discharged. Once he turned 18, Frank enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a Corporal in the Military Police (MP). He had many interesting and some funny stories of his MP beat on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. He often said that serving his country was one of the proudest accomplishments of his life.

After his military service, Frank continued his education, earning his college degree along with certifications in Department of Defense and United States Air Force Systems Management. His career as an aerospace engineer spanned decades and included contributions to significant national projects, including work on the United States Space Station.

Frank was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Patricia Fanelli. Their nearly 60 years together were filled with deep companionship, love, laughter, and countless cherished moments shared with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, extended family, and close friends. His love for family was the steady center of his life.

Known for his gentle nature, warm smile, and quick sense of humor, Frank brought kindness wherever he went. He loved animals and children, delighted in tackling new “projects” and had a natural talent for music—playing piano, guitar, and nearly any instrument he picked up. He enjoyed games, chess, and cards…always ready for friendly competition and connection.

Frank’s life was one of service, love, humor, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in his family and the countless lives he touched.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia and their large, beautiful, blended family, which includes Children from both of their previous marriages:

and predeceased son Ronald McCown.

He leaves behind six Grandchildren:

and Michael McCown.

He also is survived by his loving sister, Jean Antoinette Bender, and cousin Rose Doria, his nephews George Bender, Michael Fanelli, Thomas Lima, Mark Lima, and nieces Mary Fanelli, Pia Lima, Jakki Gullo and many loving great nieces and nephews, and relatives residing in Italy.

Additionally, he is blessed with thirteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

He will be fondly remembered and lovingly held in the hearts of his entire family and all who knew him.
