

Francis Lono Kanahele died peacefully on February 7 at the age of 91. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, he attended Punahou School where he excelled in athletics, lettering in both football and track. After attending Pasadena City College on a football scholarship, he joined the Coast Guard during the Korean War. Later he graduated from Golden Gate College in San Francisco and has been a business owner in Fullerton for many years. Frank loved his Ohana, and returned to Hawaii for every Punahou or family reunion. He enjoyed live jazz and supported many artists and jazz programming through Friends of Jazz.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Francis Hookaamomi Kanahele and Annie Lehua Asam Kanahele, and sister Patsy Kanahele Hicks. He is survived by his son David (Kiera), daughter Kim, sisters Muriel Kanahele Tice and Beadie Kanahele Dawson, brother-in-law Gilbert Hicks, and many nieces and nephews.
To honor his memory there will be a celebration of life on March 26 at the Elks Lodge in Fullerton. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).
