It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet, a woman whose kindness, generosity, and eternal optimism touched the lives of all who knew her. Born in a Los Angeles hospital, Janet often playfully declared she arrived in the "year of the Beatles," a fact that explained her penchant for Sunday mornings spent enjoying "Breakfast with the Beatles" on KLOS. Her entire childhood unfolded within the familiar embrace of her La Mirada home.
Janet embodied her proud Scandinavian heritage, with 50% Danish roots from her father and 50% Swedish from her mother. As the youngest of four, she grew up alongside her three older brothers, Larry, Bryan, and Robert (never Bob). Her childhood, typical of the 60s and 70s, was filled with carefree evenings playing in the streets, riding bikes, and engaging in neighborhood sports, always ensuring she was home before the streetlights flickered on. Many of Janet's lifelong friendships were forged in these early years, through organizations like the Brownies, Job’s Daughters, and various church groups. A natural athlete, Janet excelled in high school, earning letters in softball, basketball, and tennis. Her passion for history led her to major in the subject, culminating in a degree from Cal State University of Long Beach. It was during her college years, in 1984, that she met the love of her life, Jim, at the La Mirada United Methodist young adults group. They were married on August 9, 1986, at the Methodist Church in Anaheim. Janet embraced motherhood with boundless love, welcoming their son, Andrew Thomas, in March 1995, followed by their daughter, Sarah Emily, in January 1999.
Janet will be remembered as an incredible mother who consistently found the good in people, a testament to her eternally optimistic spirit. Her heart truly lit up when she spoke of exploring the world. For Janet, there was no greater joy than experiencing new places alongside her beloved husband, Jim, and their cherished children, Andrew and Sarah. Travel wasn't just a hobby for Janet; it was about creating unforgettable memories with her family. These family trips, filled with laughter, learning, and the deepening bonds of love, were among her most treasured memories and truly enriched their lives together. Though outspoken, Janet never had a bad word to say about anyone, choosing instead to focus on the positive and uplift those around her. Her unwavering belief in the good of humanity, coupled with her infectious joy, will be profoundly missed by her family and vast circle of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at La Mirada Methodist Church, located at 15700 Rosecrans Ave, La Mirada, CA 90638, on August 6, 2025, starting at 4:00 pm. A reception will follow at the same location.
