John (“Jack”) Blades Cameron passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2026, at the age of 97. Jack was born on March 25, 1929, in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada to John and Myrt Cameron. He grew up with a deep appreciation for the beauty of the Alberta mountains, a love of learning, and a strong sense of family that remained central throughout his life.
In Calgary, Jack gave his time as a swim coach for a local swim club, sharing his enthusiasm and encouragement with young swimmers. Summer vacations in the Okanagan were a treasured family tradition, filled with camping, and teaching his kids to fish from the family rowboat, the Nazy Glook.
Jack earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to build a respected career as a geophysicist, known by colleagues and friends for his brilliant mind, dedication, kindness, and strong work ethic. His career took him from Alberta, Canada to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he found Mona and began a loving partnership for the rest of his life. From joining a bowling league and teaching Sunday School in Chicago, to delivering Meals on Wheels, square dancing, and going to the Angels’ games in Southern California, Jack and Mona were active in the community and developed deep friendships wherever they went.
Jack and Mona enjoyed traveling and took numerous trips to exotic destinations, often planned by Jack as a surprise for their June anniversary. In later years, his children and grandchildren loved visiting Jack and Mona, especially to swim in the pool, visit the beaches and theme parks, and spend time together.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Mona; children, Sandy Cameron, Stephanie Clark, and Pam Bennett(Wes); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Mark Cameron (Mickey) and his sister, Rosemary Jones.
Jack will be remembered for his intelligence, warmth, curiosity, devotion to family, and the full and adventurous life he shared with Mona. In lieu of flowers or donations, share some time and a Dr. Pepper with your loved ones.
