Born on October 2, 1943, in Middletown, Ohio, John went on to earn both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from California Polytechnic University, Pomona, in Information Technology and Accounting. He began his professional career at Beckman Instruments and went on to build a long and rewarding career, steadily advancing through roles at several other companies over the years.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Sherry, who passed away in 2017. Together, they cherished the years spent watching their children grow up, marry, and raise families of their own. John and Sherry were the strong foundation and support system for their entire family.
John is survived by his daughter Vicki Orozco (husband Ray), along with granddaughter Angela Moody (husband Ryan), grandson Tony Orozco, and great-granddaughters Desiree and Aria Moody; his daughter Lori Carney (husband Chief), along with grandson Justin Dalton, granddaughter Elissa Dalton, and great-granddaughters Selyna Hernandez, Linette Hernandez, Ismaee Esclera, and Emberlyn Dalton; his daughter Juli Sanchez, along with granddaughter Jennifer, grandson Brandon, and great-granddaughter Gwen; his son Brett Stovern (wife Shannon), along with grandson Harrison and granddaughter Presley; his sister, Kristi Rummel; his niece, Lana Moran; and his brother-in-law, Rick Gunderson (wife Cathy).
John remained active and full of life well into his later years. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends he gathered along the way. An avid traveler, he was known for taking long road trips across the country to visit family and see new places, and he also cherished his annual trips to Hawaii. He kept playing basketball well into his 80s, enjoyed playing craps with his best friend Gary, and was a devoted sports fan, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Angels through every season. Above all, John had a generous heart and took genuine joy in helping others in need, always ready to lend a hand to family, friends, and anyone who could use his support.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on in the family he built and the countless moments of joy he shared with them. After nine years apart, John will once again be at peace with his loving wife, Sherry.
A celebration of John's remarkable life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fullerton.
