

Karen Denise Taylor was born on May 1, 1962, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to Janie and James Taylor, Sr. On August 1, 2015 the Lord called her home. For the past twenty years she had been fighting breast cancer. Karen was an advocate for breast cancer awareness and participated in two Susan G. Komen events. Karen attended and graduated from Moss Point High School in Mississippi. She was awarded a full scholarship to the Jackson State University as a student athlete to play women's basketball. In 1983 she led her team to the NCAA Championship title. In 1984 she graduated with Bachelor's degree in communications. In 2009 she was inducted in the hall of fame for women's collegiate basketball. Karen leaves a multitude of memories for her family to cherish. She is survived by her loving son Stanley Johnson II, her remaining siblings in Mississippi, sister, Vickie Taylor, brothers, James Taylor, and Michael Taylor and his wife Shelia. Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Thursday, Aug. 6 at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, Fullerton. Burial at Loma Vista Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
