September 14, 1938-November 5, 2022
On November 5th, 2022, our beloved husband, father and papa passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years at his home in Placentia. Ken was born September 14, 1938, in Colorado Springs, Colo. to the parents of Frank and Mary Stwertnik. He grew up loving cars and playing ice hockey. He won the 1952 Soap Box Derby in Colorado Springs and was part of the St. Mary’s High School hockey team to win the 1956 state hockey championship. Upon high school graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served for three years, including two years in Guam. In 1963, he graduated from Long Beach State University with a Manufacturing Engineering degree and worked many years for Bechtel and Ford Motor Company.
He loved his wife Jan, and they were happily married for 56 wonderful years. He has three children, a son, Brian and two daughters, Barbara and Amy and has seven amazing grandchildren that he loved very much. Ken loved many things including being able to ski with his grandkids into his late 60’s and every grandchild knows a childhood story from papa. He had a love for cars, camping with many close families at Doheny State Beach, road trips, skiing, and later in his life took up cycling and was able to bike through Europe.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A memorial viewing will be held, Thursday, November 17, from 4-7 pm at McAulay & Wallace in Fullerton and the Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 18 at 12:30 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Placentia.
