

Larry Nelson was born October 1, 1938 to Harry and Frances (Schaeffer) Nelson. He was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. He graduated from St. Ann’s High School and the University of Florida. He graduated with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He managed restaurants in Chicago and St. Louis before going into college food service at the University of Missouri in Columbia. From there he moved to Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. While there he met and married Kathi Nelson. Larry joined Colonel Sanders at the beginning of the Kentucky Roast Beef program and the couple settled in Louisville Kentucky, and later in Yorba Linda, California. When the Kentucky Roast Beef program was discontinued, he became a district manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken. He joined McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (later Boeing) in 1978 and retired from there 35 years later. Larry and Kathi were the parents of three daughters: Laura, Karin and Erika. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He adored his children and grandchildren. He loved traveling and sightseeing. Larry is survived by his wife Kathi, daughters and their families, Laura (Steve) Rogers, Michael, Logan, Jarod and James: Karin (Dieter) Stefanon, Cole, and Cody: Erika (Dave Curtis) Warren, Paige, and Mason. He is also survived by his brother, Harry (Alice) Nelson and several cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Frances Nelson. He put his hand in the hand of Jesus and went Home.
