Murrel was born August 11, 1939, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of the late Stuart Lee Dean and Mary (Baker) Dean. Along with his sister, Priscilla (Dean) Nielsen, Murrel’s formative years were spent in Fort Madison, Iowa and Topeka, Kansas. In 1957, he graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. Later, he graduated from Washburn University, married his loving wife of 52 years, Earlene (Pierce) Dean, and served our country in the United States Marine Corps. After several moves, Murrel and his family settled in California where he continued his career in distribution and logistics management.
Although Murrel enjoyed his career, it wasn’t his life’s focus. His favorite and most cherished titles were those of Christ-follower, husband, father, and Pappy. His deep love for the Lord and devotion to his family were evident to all. When Murrel wasn’t doting on his family, playing golf, watching Kansas University sports or Angels baseball, Murrel could be found serving at his church, Wilshire Avenue Community Church, in Fullerton, California.
Murrel was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene (Pierce) Dean. He is survived by one daughter, Amy (Ed) Mueller of Anaheim Hills, CA; two sons, Andrew (Viviana) Dean of Anaheim Hills, CA and William (Stephanie) Dean of Lake in the Hills, IL; seven grandchildren, Ash, Matt (Samantha), Becca, Nate, Amanda, Abigail and Caleb; and one great-granddaughter, Callie.
The Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 19th at Wilshire Avenue Community Church in Fullerton, California. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Murrel’s name to Providence St. Jude Medical Center. The Crosson Cancer Institute at Providence St. Jude was near and dear to Murrel’s heart. It’s where his wife, Earlene, was treated for cancer and where he later volunteered for seven years in the surgical waiting area and the cancer center infusion
area. You may donate online by clicking the link below: Providence St. Jude Memorial Foundation. In the drop down menu, you may select the Crosson Cancer Institute as an option or another area of your choice. Donations, in Murrel’s honor, can also be made by mailing a check to:
