September 9, 1941 – January 6, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nabil Alfy Kamel, lovingly known as Nader, on January 6, 2025. He was surrounded by his devoted wife, Magdolin (Maggie) Kamel, and his cherished daughters, Nermin Fraser and Jasmin Marcus, as he peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 83.
Born on September 9, 1941, in Assiut, Egypt, Nabil began his life in a close-knit family. As a young man, he helped his father grow and export chamomile before pursuing a career as an electrical engineer. In Egypt, Nabil worked for the Ministry of Energy on high-profile projects, including those for the Egyptian president. In 1978, Nabil made the courageous decision to move his family to the United States, seeking better opportunities and a brighter future for them.
Starting over as an apprentice, Nabil’s relentless work ethic and expertise propelled him to a successful career retiring as a Lead Electrical Designer with Chevron in their El Segundo office. His colleagues deeply respected him, and even upon his retirement at 70, his contributions were so valued they were reluctant to let him go.
Nabil had a passion for the simple joys in life. He loved taking peaceful walks around the lake at La Mirada Park, playing backgammon, solving Sudoku puzzles, and watching classic cowboy movies. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and he delighted in carols, movies like Miracle on 34th Street, and festive gatherings with his family. Above all, his happiest moments were spent surrounded by his loved ones.
Nabil is survived by his beloved wife, Maggie; his daughters, Nermin Fraser and her husband, Mathew, and Jasmin Marcus and her husband, Greg; and his adored grandchildren: Isabelle Fraser (11), Jason Marcus (6), Emily Marcus (4), and Amy Marcus (1). He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Mary Kamel and Nabila Kamel; his sister-in-law, Noel, and her children, Dora and Mohsen. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mohsen Kamel and Maged Kamel.
Known for his generosity, selflessness, and unwavering faith in God, Nabil was the heart of his family and a loyal friend to many. His kindness, humor, and dedication to those he loved will forever be remembered.
A funeral service to celebrate Nabil’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arabic Evangelical Church in Whittier, CA. Interment will follow at Olive Lawn Memorial Park in La Mirada. A meal to honor his memory will be provided at Dimassi's in Cerritos.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Nabil’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Boys Town, charities close to his heart.
Nabil’s legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
