

Peter Werner Othmer was born May 13, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Rudolph and Annemarie Othmer and was survived by his daughter Brigitte. Peter was one of four siblings and was raised on the family farm in Woodland; he had a lifelong love of farming. Peter attended Woodland High School in Woodland Michigan, and graduated in 1958 as the class Valedictorian. Peter continued his education and graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in 1963 from Purdue University. Peter had become a member of Tau Beta PI Engineering Honor Society, Indiana Alpha Chapter. He then went on to complete a Master in Mechanical Engineering at UCLA, and graduated in 1965. Peter later completed a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA in 1974. Throughout his studies Peter worked professionally – beginning in his undergraduate, working for Kellogg in Battle Creek Michigan. Following his completion of his Bachelors Peter worked at Hughes Aircraft in the Space Systems Division as member of the Technical Staff helping to design the Moon Lander for the Apollo Program. Following the completion of his Ph. D. Peter began his full professorship at Cal State University of Fullerton where he taught Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Thermodynamics and Propulsion for over thirty years. Peter, was quick to make a joke, and easily brought to laughter. One of great generosity and selflessness He was always learning, and teaching others.
