Robert Leonard Brown Jr.

Robert Leonard “Bob” Brown Jr., 77, of Yorba Linda, California, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born in Long Beach, California, on November 3, 1948, to Robert Leonard Brown and Dorothy Rose Brown (née Keeler). He was the eldest of two children. He attended Mark Twain Elementary School, Bancroft Junior High School, and Lakewood High School, graduating with the Class of 1966. It was during his years at Lakewood High that Bob discovered his passion for football.

A gifted and dedicated athlete, Bob excelled on the football field, earning numerous awards and honors. He continued his football career at Long Beach City College, where his accomplishments led to a full scholarship to Stanford University. He graduated from Stanford in 1971.

That same year, Bob was introduced to Teri through their mutual friend, Sue Hayles, who was Teri’s sorority sister at UCLA and a good friend of Bob’s from Long Beach. They married in Long Beach, California, on July 10, 1976. Their 50-year marriage was a beautiful testament to their vows: “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.”

Bob loved to cook, he loved his dogs, enjoyed reading and going to the library to find new books to read, enjoyed card games like hearts and poker, he was great with sarcasm and teasing and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was warm, friendly, and never met a stranger, always greeting people with a hello or making small talk with those around him. Yet his greatest joy was not found in football, cooking, reading or any award. Bob’s greatest joy, accomplishment and blessing was his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren meant everything to him, and all that he did was for them. He was their biggest cheerleader.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Brown, and his brother-in-law, Howard DeWeese.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Teri; his three children, Courtney (Bryan) Schilling, Lindsay (Justin) Ward, and Travis Brown; his three grandchildren, James Ward, Morgane Schilling, and Wyatt Schilling; and his sister, Dixie DeWeese.

Bob was deeply loved, and the emptiness left by his passing will be difficult to fill. His kindness, humor, and devotion to his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
