
Captain Robert L Moore Beloved husband, father, and friend to many died at the age of 93 on February 12, 2014 in his home from Parkinson Disease after several years under hospice care. His wife of 48 years, his three adopted girls Annette, Lorraine and Roxane, plus 6 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren survives him. He was born April 6,1920 in Los Angeles. Raised by his late mother, Aileen, after his late father, Layton Moore, one of a few cameramen in early film died when Robert was only five. He had no siblings. Graduated college at GAL TECH with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. During this time worked on the Jupiter project in the set up Palomar Observatory. This later set the tone for his work in space. Upon graduation he enter the Navy in August 1942 until the end of active duty in July 1946. Continued in the reserves and retired in 1980 as a Captain of Artillery. He stated the military service was his most valued accomplishment. Other accomplishments include in 1950 UCLA postgraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering. Then work for Rocketdyne, (division of North American Aviation) from 1950-1961 as program manager/engineer for all phases of the thrust rocket. Here his engineering leadership on the rocket boosters had strong influence with the decision to place the booster on the outside of the rocket. This leadership and dedication lead to his involvement as Mechanical Systems Director of the Saturn S-II Program. From 1961 work for North American Rockwell, space division where he was promoted as Assistant Chief Engineer of the Sat-II Program. Many know this to be the 2nd phase of the Apollo Project. Before retirement created the blue prints for the Boosters of the now retired Endeavour. He will be remembered for his positive outlook, quiet spirit, and strong desire to find resolution"not blame. He wanted to be a positive influence in everything he did.
