Susan graduated from Clover Park High School (Washington), Class of 1958. She married Richard Phillips, moved to California and had four daughters, Helen, Karna, Christine, and Kathryn. The family moved to Arizona, had a fifth daughter, Laura, and after 9 years moved back to California.
Susan was a parishioner of St. Juliana Catholic Church, Fullerton, CA. She was an active participant in church activities including choir, Madrigals, youth education, and lector ministry.
Following her divorce from Richard, she began working as a Lab Tech at Hancock Laboratories (1975-1980). Susan then found her calling in the Fullerton School District (1981 – 2005) as a Teacher Assistance in the Special Needs department. She started at Richman Elementary (1981-1986), then moved to Commonwealth Elementary (1987-2000) and finished her career to Valencia Park Elementary. She loved working with the children and her co-workers.
Susan married J. Byrne Simpson in 1977. They built a life together merging both families. She enjoyed family gatherings, singing, reading, traveling, the beach and Mt. Rainier. The first grandchild was born and her life was changed forever! She was the Grandma/Great-Grandma to seven grandsons, Brent, Justin, Karl, Kevin, Erik, Jonathan, and Ian, one granddaughter, Kristiana and two great-granddaughters, Reagan and Dakota.
