Born in Pasadena in 1942 to parents John and Marion Thompson, she grew up in Downey with brothers George and Doug. Ginny graduated from Pius X High School in Downey before earning a bachelors degree at the University of San Diego. She later earned a masters degree at USIU in 1988. It was at a dance at USD where she caught the attention of Navy Lieutenant Arthur M Porter who was too shy to approach her but wrote Ginny a letter requesting a date. What followed was over 50 years of love and marriage.
For 37 years Ginny inspired students throughout her career as an elementary school teacher in Bellflower. A world traveler with an affinity for Ireland, Ginny also enjoyed teaching RCIA at her church, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren: Caroline, Jack and Avery.
In addition to her grandchildren, Ginny is survived by her husband Arthur “Mike” Porter, daughters Julie Borsari and Susan Fargo, nephew David Thompson, brothers George and Doug, sister-in-law Karen Thompson and sons-in-law David Borsari and Charlie Fargo.
