Amelia Tombo Monte

She was “Mommy” to two children, “Lola” to two grandchildren, and “Tita/Auntie” to nephews, nieces, and friends of her children. She is predeceased by her parents Carlos Agno Tombo and Manolita Arellano Tombo, brothers Manuel (Concepcion) and Ernani. She leaves behind her husband of 49 years Dionisio Monte, her daughter Khristina, pup Cali, her son Noel and daughter-in-law Ruschelle, grandkids CJ and Aria, her sister Mercedes (Ricardo) Reynoso, brother Cedric (Marta), brother Edgar (Monalie), and numerous nephews and nieces who referred to her as “Tita Amy”, but she loved them all as her own children.

She was born in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines. She graduated from Adamson University, received her CPA, and made her way to the United States. While in Philadelphia, PA, she met and married her husband Dionisio who was in the U.S. Navy. Thereupon she became a military wife, traveling with her husband to various ports in the Philippines and California. Her husband’s final port of duty after which he retired was in Washington DC. They set up roots in Maryland. This allowed her to find ample work as an accountant, culminating with her working for the U.S. HUD and then the U.S. EPA, retiring after 20 years of government service.

Throughout her life she enjoyed going out, especially to parties. She was always the life of the party. She loved, as she put it, “investing in her happiness,” i.e., going to the casino or playing mahjong. She loved music. She enjoyed playing the piano and guitar. She loved to sing and dance. Most of all she loved to spoil her whole family especially her kids and grandkids.

She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held August 25 and 26, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM, both days at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, MD.

Family and friends are invited to celebration of Amelia’s life on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Mother Seton Catholic Church in Germantown, MD. Mass will start at 10:30 AM. A reception will follow at Adventure Playground, 17920 Germantown Park Drive, Germantown, MD 20874.
