Anna Lucile Koth Thomas May 6, 1922 – December 24, 2024 Lucile Koth Thomas passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She was born on May 6, 1922, in Grays Hill, South Carolina, to the late Charles Frederick and Effie Trudo Bishop Koth. A graduate of Beaufort High School, Lucile began her career at Western Union during World War II. There she met her husband, Walter Henry Thomas—a young Marine Corps Staff Sgt. from Pittsburgh stationed at Parris Island—when he came in to send a telegram. They married in Beaufort on September 19, 1942.

Lucile was the beloved sister of Lois K. Carscallen and a devoted mother to her two sons, Richard Stanley Thomas of New Jersey and Larry Walter Thomas of South Carolina. Her legacy also continues through her grandchildren Phillip Thomas (Ying), Scott Thomas (Helen), Robert Thomas, Kimberly Powell (Albrecht), Lindley Michelle Blakely, and Jamie Thomas (Christie), and great-grandchildren—Kelsey, Wren, Kira, Mason, Campbell, Michael, Cassie, Madison, Chelsea, Michael, Tia, and Makenna. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Charlie, J.M., and Daniel Lorren; sisters Mable Tamsberg and Elise Brenner; and grandson, Charles. Lucile’s intelligence, dedication, and humor were evident from an early age, and she carried these qualities throughout her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, stories, spunk, and the friendships she cultivated over the years. Those who knew her cherished her warmth and unwavering spirit. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 520 Veirs Mill Road in Rockville, MD. Lucile will be laid to rest at a future date in Arlington National Cemetery.
