Leo was born in Chicago, IL to Anthony Richard Lawless and Colette Peo. Leo is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Yoko Lawless; his children, Patty Lawless, Tony Lawless and wife Tina, Marcia Maines and husband Ken, Debbie Rentler and husband Russ, Lisa Lawless, and Rachel Lawless; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1957 and received his Masters in Industrial Relations from Loyola University of Chicago in 1962. Shortly after obtaining his BA, he embarked on a 30-year-long career at Mars, Incorporated serving as the global head of Human Resources. This allowed him to travel across the world. He ultimately ended up in Tokyo, Japan where he met his wife, Yoko. They had two children, Lisa and Rachel. They lived in Japan until 2001, when they moved to Washington, D.C. where he remained until his death.
Leo was passionate about helping others and cultivating community. His contributions to the lives of many include serving as a board member of College Bound, an organization dedicated to helping local DC students matriculate and graduate from college, and volunteering at Foundry United Methodist Church ID Ministry, serving our neighbors in need.
Leo was an entertainer with an infectious personality - he loved gathering around a table with friends, enjoying great food and drinks, and telling stories especially at the University Club, DC where he made many dear friends. He enjoyed traveling around the world, meeting new people, and visiting with his children and beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He lived life his way and wrote his own rules; he was Lawless and proud of it. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
