Arlene “Dolly” Jones, 76, of Gaithersburg, MD died May 2, 2021 at Holy Cross Hospital Germantown after a brief illness following declining health. She was born the first of six children to Harold “Mike” Hendrickson and Eleanor Hendrickson in Queens, New York on February 28, 1945.
Dolly grew up in Boonsboro, MD and graduated from Boonsboro High School. She then lived in Washington, DC working in the FBI typing pool for a couple of years with her three roommates who became lifelong friends getting into all kinds of shenanigans. She then got married to Jack Jones, and lived the life of a Navy wife, moving all over the country, raising her children, and making friends everywhere she went. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Navy, Dolly and her family settled in Maryland where she worked at the Post Office until her retirement.
Arlene was known to all who met her as one of the kindest, loving, and most accepting people alive. Whether you knew her as Arlene, Dolly, Mom, or Ma Jones you always knew her home was open to you and there was a place at her table for you. She loved to laugh and had a fiendish sense of humor. She loved to travel, and was always ready to join someone on a new adventure. Her loves of Disney, Peanuts, Rockwell, and Hummels were evident to anyone who had the pleasure of being in her home. Her Catholic faith was the backbone of all her actions and she lived as Christ taught.
She will be forever missed by her husband of 54 years Jack, three children James (Lisa), Laura (Sean), and Anna (Arthur), three grandchildren Elijah, Maureen, and Noelle, five siblings James (Ilene), Tom (Gloria), Ray (Lisa), Lori (Sam), and Deborah, and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. at DeVol Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours in Gaithersburg, MD.
