

Arsenio J. Amores Sr., 84 of Potomac, MD, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Med Star Georgetown University Medical Center. Arsenio was born in Camaguey, Cuba on October 18, 1941 to Tomas A. and Juana F. Amores. They resided in Camagueythrough his elementary and high school years. In 1963, Arsenio fled communist Cuba and came to the USA through Mexico where he obtained proper documentation to settle in Washington, DC, eventually becoming an American citizen in 1970. Once in DC, he enrolled at George Washington University and studied Electrical Engineering. In 1964 he met the love of his life Maggie and they were married a year later, on March 27, 1965. After graduating with his BS in Engineering from GW in 1967, Arsenio was hired by Control Data, an electronic systems company, where he worked for a number of years. Subsequently, he became a partner at Space Age Computer Systems (SACS) and eventually ventured out on his own and founded a number of computer systems solutions businesses, geared towards the medical profession industry.
In his younger years, Arsenio enjoyed playing basketball and tennis, and later in life picked up golf, one of his favorite pastimes. He became an avid golfer and joined Bretton Woods Golf Club in Darnestown, MD. For many years, his favorite hobby was boating on the Chesapeake Bay at Mears Point Marina where he docked his boat. He was the ultimate host and Captain to all his friends and family, many times setting out on weekend excursions to St. Michaels.
Arsenio is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Margarita V. Amores (Maggie), his son Arsenio J. Amores, Jr. (AJ), daughter-in-law Makiko Tanaka, grandson Eru and granddaughter Lilu, all from Nara, Japan. He is also survived by his cousins Fernando Prada and family of West Palm Beach, FL and Miriam Guerra of Hallandale, FL.
A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Dr., Potomac, MD on Friday January 30, 2026 from 1pm to 2pm, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following. Interment to be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, 924 G St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001.
