Arthur Albert Turcotte Jr.

Arthur Albert Turcotte Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026, just weeks before what would have been his 96th birthday on September 15. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, which spanned generations.

To those who knew him best, Art will be remembered for the gentle, humble, and sweet man he was. He was a devoted father/ grandfather who treasured time with his family. He especially loved teasing and joking with every family member he encountered and creating memories that will live on forever.

Art found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved tending to his vegetable garden, and spending holidays surrounded by those he loved. Halloween was one of his favorite times of year, and he delighted in dressing up and scaring the neighborhood children. He was also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, Monday Night Wrestling, and enjoyed spending time playing games on his computer. Among his favorite companions were the family dogs, Pocket and Nugget, whom he adored and spoiled with affection.

Art proudly served his country in the United States Navy for nine years. During his military service, he was stationed on several distinguished aircraft carriers, including the USS Intrepid and the USS Ticonderoga. Following his military service, Art spent more than 50 years driving a taxicab in Washington, D.C. Through his professionalism, kindness, and dependability, he became much more than a driver to many of his passengers. He developed a loyal clientele who counted on him for decades, including several prominent Washington figures, among them renowned presidential press conference journalist Helen Thomas.

Art is survived by his beloved family: Jean Marie Solarczyk, Mike Solarczyk, Susie Weaver, Karen and Gary DeLeon, Ryan DeLeon, Eric Hajos, Kai Hajos, Makiko Hajos, Matthew Solarczyk, Rich Nigra, and Denise Joseph. He was a loving and devoted grandfather and father to Marie and Susie, who will forever cherish his presence, humor, and unconditional love. Art stayed to help raise use when so many others did not.

His absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled. The family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness, laughter, service, and love will continue through all who were fortunate enough to know him. Nothing will ever be the same without him, but his memory will remain a source of comfort for years to come.

A private family service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 4, 2026, at DeVol Funeral Home, Gaithersburg, MD followed by interment at Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville, MD.
