Carl William Reed, 86, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away on the Lord’s day, Sunday, May 22, 2022. Carl was born on February 9, 1936 to Carl ‘Layton’ and Reita Reed in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Easton High School and he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in the 42nd Armament and Electronics Squadron in Maine and Colorado. Carl was trained at the Capitol Radio and Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C. Carl’s remarkable career was with the U.S. Federal Government, where he worked in the field of engineering for over 30 years. He married the love of his life Elaine Joseph in 1963 and they enjoyed over 59 years together. Carl is survived by his loving wife Elaine Joseph; children, Jennifer Reed, and James Reed; grandchildren, Thomas Reed and John Reed, and a loving extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
Carl will be most remembered for his Christian walk with God; who steered his character, love of family, work ethic and talent for many hobbies. The path of God led Carl to pursue that which has become his legacy - a life honorably lived. Carl was gifted in his technical prowess and ingenuity. He saw things in blueprints and schematics; he could literally fix anything. He was a man who spoke less and allowed his actions to speak for him. Carl’s talents were cast far and wide. If someone had a need for his aptitude, Carl gave generously from all he had to respond. As a quiet professional, he would consider and examine all the facts, then he would render a judgment on a problem and meticulously set out to correct it. Carl will be dearly missed by many, and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Memorial service will be held from 11am to 12pm on Wednesday June 1, 2022, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 13901 Clopper Road, Germantown, MD 20874.
