Colleen was born to Glenn and Leona Culbert of Battle Creek, MI, in 1938. She moved to Maryland with her family when she was very young and lived there for most of her life.
Colleen led a very full life, first joining the Pallottine Missionary Sisters for a short time, where she taught high school math, chemistry, and English; then raising a son while working as an editor for college science textbooks and journals. Later in her life she was very active in the St. Martin of Tours’ RCIA program.
Colleen had a passion for genealogy, researching her family history through the generations and writing stories and drawing family trees to present at family reunions. She took many trips around the US to locate family graves and traveled to Ireland several times to continue her research and meet distant cousins. Even as she struggled with her memory, she loved to tell family stories at every opportunity.
She also loved her many cats, from her childhood companion Speck, to Elsa, the over-protective maine-coon that she adopted as a kitten and only ever allowed Colleen to hold him.
Finally, many people have fond memories of Colleen’s baking, especially her famous peanut butter cookies at the holidays.
