Donald Edward Fraser Sr., age 88, passed away after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His life was defined by resilience, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to family, work, and community.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Donald demonstrated remarkable courage at an early age, emigrating to the United States on his own at just 18 years old. He made his home in New York City, where he built not only a life but a legacy. It was there he met his future wife, Jean Winter, a proud Trinidadian. The two married in 1963, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love, adventure, and mutual respect.
Donald’s professional journey began with a series of odd jobs before he found his calling as a dental technician. Through dedication, skill, and sharp business instincts, he rose to become one of the most respected figures in the tri-state dental community. After nearly two decades of helping lead the success of a dental lab, he went on to establish his own, earning a reputation as the go-to expert in his field. His work ethic and technical excellence set a standard in the industry that endured well beyond his retirement in 2005.
Upon retiring, Donald and Jean relocated to Sarasota, Florida—a place he fondly and frequently called “paradise.” Retirement suited him well, though he never slowed down socially. Known affectionately by family as “the mayor,” Donald had a gift for connection. Whether among friends or strangers, he greeted everyone with genuine warmth and curiosity, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went.
He was an active member of the men’s social club JAF (Just About Friends) and found great joy in fellowship and community. Donald also had a deep love for travel, music, and the arts. Together, he and Jean explored the world, each journey enriching their perspective and deepening their appreciation for different cultures and people.
Donald will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and sincere interest in others. He built lasting friendships throughout his life and left behind a legacy of integrity, hard work, and compassion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his daughter, Dona; his son, Donald Jr., and daughter-in-law, Kelly; and his cherished grandchildren, Harrison and Olivia, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be announced at a future date. His presence will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life and legacy will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
