

On March 7th 2025, Dorothy Imogene Spain Jenkins, passed peacefully at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.Dorothy was born on August 4th 1938 in Montclair, New Jersey to James and Dorothy Spain. She was the youngest of six siblings; three brothers and three sisters. As a young woman, Dorothy worked for Citi Bank in New York City.In 1960 Dorothy married Charles E. Jenkins, and had four children: Charles (Chuckie) Jenkins,Jacqueline Jenkins, Christopher Jenkins, and Jason Jenkins.
In 1975, Dorothy reentered the workforce as a federal employee for the Department Health Education and Welfare; where she worked for 25 years before retiring in 2000.
While married, she was a homemaker for 15 years. Dorothy always put her family first. She and Jason would go for long walks where she would listen to him talk about some of his favorite things like comic books. She would invite him to help her prepare dinner which he always loved to do. Her daughter Jacqueline remembers watching her in awe as she would get dressed up to go out. Chris remembers all the great conversations they had when he would drive her around. She always gave the best advice. She encouraged her children through every stage of their life, and was always their biggest advocate.She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with her grandchildren.Dorothy was an avid swimmer, bowler, dancer, and lover of music. She was always quick to give thoughtful advice and was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a fashionista who loved to dress up, shop, and get her hair done.She was compassionate, nurturing, encouraging, patient, and resilient. Our family is very thankful to have had her and for everyone that knew her and loved her as much as we do. We will keep her in our hearts and minds where her memory will live on for as long as we do.
A visitation will be held for Dorothy on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD from 10:00AM to 11:00AM followed by a service starting at 11:00AM. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
Flowers and condolences can be sent to the funeral home on March 21st between 12:00pm up until 8:00pm and the morning of the service between 8:30am until 9:30am.
