It is with great sadness we announce that on Friday, January 13, Dr. Don E. Beck, beloved husband and wonderful father, passed away after a courageous battle for his health. He was born December 31, 1949. He was 73 years old. Don was closely surrounded by his wife, loving daughters, and his dogs. Don was a graduate of University of Washington medical school, (Go Huskies!) and Washington State (Go Cougs!). Through the years, he continued advancement of his medical career and completed a Masters’ degree at University of Michigan.
Don met his wife Sheila in San Francisco at the public health hospital where they both worked. They were married 25 years. Their two daughters, Isabel and Deirdre, were the joy of his existence. He could not spoil them enough while at the same time, being the consummate example of hard work and integrity. He and Deirdre shared an immense passion for football, which we all then embraced. Don loved family vacations and showing his daughters some of his favorite places in the country. We embarked on a wonderful trip to Europe this summer of which he was very proud. Our Irish relatives were thrilled to spend time with him. Don loved 60’s and 70’s rock n’ roll but especially Bob Dylan and the Beatles. He loved poker with the boys and zoom calls with his dear childhood friends. Don always enjoyed a visit to the NY area where his wife’s family and lifelong friends reside. Always a good sport, Don kept pace with the busy social schedule Sheila set. Don always made friends, as people liked his gentle and intelligent demeanor.
Aside from his wife Sheila, and their daughters Isabel and Deirdre, Don is preceded by his father Frederick C. Beck, his mother, Margaret Hessenthaler, (nee Patterson) and brother Chester Beck. He is survived by his brother Daryl Beck, and his niece Michelle Pearson, his two sisters-in-law, Patricia Ryan and family, Eileen Bragg (husband Steven), brother-in-law Bill Kenny (wife Lisa and family), step siblings Patty Rhodes and Janice Janshen of Yakima Washington, Uncles Charles, Peter and Clayton Beck, Aunt Pat Gardner, and their families, and his many friends across the United States.
A memorial service will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 12 noon. Family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12 noon.
