Edward F. Bruner

Ed was born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 2, 1938 to the late Winfield and Margaret (Browne) Bruner, and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa by his grandparents, the late Charles and Winnie Adams. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School, participating in band and wrestling, and becoming an accomplished pianist, and Eagle Scout.

After a year at University of Iowa, Ed received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, Class of 1961. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Armor officer. Following company grade assignments in Korea, Fort Indiantown Gap and the Armor Officer Career Course, he deployed for combat in Vietnam as an advisor to a Vietnamese Army unit. He later served as an S-3 and XO in 4/64 Armor Battalion and on the 7th Corps staff in Germany. He commanded 5/33 Armor Battalion at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before finishing his career in 1988 as a Colonel following several staff assignments in the Pentagon and Tampa, Florida.

Following his retirement from the Army, he worked as a military analyst in the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service, where he eventually became an Executive Director (Senior Executive Service) in the same office, retiring in 2015.During his adult life, Ed enjoyed fine dining, listening to classical music recorded or live, playing the piano and singing, pheasant hunting with his grandfather’s shotgun, owning two MGBs, travelling, and following Army and Washington Redskins football.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elease (Greenhalgh) Bruner; his sons Scott (Sandra) and David Bruner; his grandchildren Katherine (Michael) Levesque and Charles Bruner, his great-grandchildren Theordore and Margaret Levesque, his nieces Tracey (Jerome) Rayhons and Diane Ohara, and his step son Justin Greenhalgh (Judy) and step- granddaughter Bailee Greenhalgh. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor J. (Putnam) Bruner, and his younger brother Thomas Bruner.

Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, Maryland on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, Maryland.
