Libby Beavers of Washington DC passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2021. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Litz Beavers on April 8, 2021, and by her twin sister, Margie Mahoney, in Australia. She loved Litz’s mother and often said that she partially fell in love with Litz because of the way he loved his mother. She is survived by her grandniece, Gloria Carmona, of South Carolina, her nephew, Ernest Abigail, her niece, Victoria Berry, her great niece, Ilana Smedley, and cousins who live in Australia.
Libby was born in Sydney, Australia and came to the States in her 20’s. She soon began a decades long distinguished career at the International Monetary Fund and traveled worldwide in her positions. In an era where the social norms made it difficult for a woman to succeed, she was driven, passionate, smart, and heroic (her friends would add feisty) and considered a role model for younger women. She was devoted to her husband, her dogs, and golf. Libby played golf with her friends at Congressional Country Club, TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, and at Bretton Woods Recreation Center. She was an original member of Bretton Woods in 1968 and, a couple of years ago, was awarded a Golden Legacy Membership and honored as the longest tenured current member. Her beloved and devoted Schnauzers, Schlitzie and Boazie, are now living in Virginia with Litz’s family. Libby and Litz’s remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a future time.
