

Elizabeth ?Betty? Shea, 90 of Washington, DC passed away at Brooke Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sandy Spring, MD on Monday, April 18, 2016. Betty hailed from Torrington, CT. She graduated from a Yale affiliated nursing school in Waterbury, CT and proudly served as an Army Cadet Corps nurse. After World War II she furthered her training at Boston Lying-in Hospital. She moved to Washington, DC and worked as a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery at Georgetown University Hospital. She married and raised her four children in Washington, DC. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard W. Shea; loving mother of Daniel L. Shea (Beth), Noreen McSorley (Jim), Helene Walsh (Dan), Juliann Mantua (Joe); grandmother of Kathleen Pagano (Peter), Kerry Shea, Brian Shea (Theresa), Kevin Shea, Jack Mantua and Tom Walsh; great-grandmother of Juliana and Marcus Pagano; sister of Marion Swenson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 6001 Western Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20015 on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Brooke Grove Foundation, 18131 Slade School Road, Sandy Spring, MD 20860.
