

On Monday February 1, 2021 Evelyn Marie Burgess (Sullivan), age 77, of Silver Spring, MD died peacefully surrounded by her family after a long illness. Evelyn, known as Evie to all, was predeceased by her parents, Richard C. and Irma R. Sullivan, and her husband Robert S. Burgess, Sr.
Evie is survived by her three children: Kathleen (Burgess) Clark (Jim), Rob Burgess (Ivette) and Mike Burgess (Kelly) and 15 grandchildren: Anthony (Lauren), Michelle, Thomas (Kelsey), Christine (Pedro Paz), Maria, Nicole and Emily Clark; , Robert, Kaitlyn, Brooke and Ava Burgess; and Mary Elizabeth, Catherine Anne, Margaret Grace and Francis Michael Burgess.
She is also survived by two loving brothers; Richard C. Sullivan Jr. (Mary), and Frank J. Sullivan (Rosemary), and many nieces and nephews in the Sullivan and Burgess families.
Evie was born on July 30, 1943 in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Nativity parish and attended Nativity grade school. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy High School in 1961. Evie was a member of St. John the Evangelist parish in Silver Spring for 55 years. Evie was also very active in the parishes and schools where her children raised her 15 grandchildren and was “Gram” or “Grammom” to all. She was also “Gram” to countless friends of her grandchildren. She attended every sacrament, school event, and sporting event of her grandchildren over 32 years. She always dressed in the appropriate school color to show her school spirit and make her grandchildren feel special. Evie was also a dedicated receptionist at the dental office where she worked for many decades until her retirement in 2009. Evie’s warm smile and generous heart made her a friend to all she met.
The wake will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20902 on Thursday February 11, 2021 at 10:15am, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am.
Private interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Evelyn M. Burgess to St. John the Evangelist School, 10201 Woodland Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
