Beloved wife and mom passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Montgomery Village, Maryland on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
Born June 24, 1934, in Springfield, Tennessee. Frances was the oldest child of Haywood and Nellie White. She was predeceased by her three brothers and one sister, whom she helped to raise after the early passing of her father.
Frances later relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, attending Hume-Fogg High School—also alma mater to entertainers Dinah Shore and Pat Boone. Later, she met a young sailor on leave who became the love of her life, Leonard L. Moore of East Nashville. They later married (60 yrs) and raised four children. Thus, Frances took on two of the hardest jobs in the world, as a mom and a military spouse.
With her husband deployed, and much determination, she managed the household and raised four young children alone. Amid daily chaos she tackled endless repairs, turning necessity into resilience and becoming a skilled do it yourselfer.
Frances devoted her entire life to taking care of her family, including the family’s pets. She was also dedicated to serving as a Sunday school teacher in her younger years. In the quiet hours at home, she taught herself to use a typewriter. That determination opened the door to a full time position as a career secretary, all while she balanced the demanding responsibilities of raising her family. Her courage held firmly - each challenge became proof of her boundless strength and devotion.
In her years of retirement, Frances loved taking care of her beloved cat, and her grown children (they were always her “babies”). She also loved hummingbirds and, prior to her long illness, enjoyed gardening, sewing, shopping, bowling, playing golf and DIY projects.
Frances was preceded in death by her late husband Capt. Leonard L. Moore MSC, USN (Ret.) and two of her four children, Michael W. Moore and Patricia L. Moore-Bishop. She is survived by her son Keith Moore and daughter Debora Moore.
A funeral ceremony will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined later.
