Born to Agnes Nacey Magee and Francis X. Magee, Sr., Francis was a devoted husband of nearly 62 years to Maryanne, brother to Robert (deceased) and Kathleen Moffa, and a loving father to Colleen (Eric Wohlust), Christine (Christopher Zalewski) and Michael (Jennifer), and a cherished grandfather to Jacob Wohlust; Madeline and Katherine Zalewski; and Julia, Caitlin and Ryan Magee. Known for his sparkling blue eyes, impish Irish wit, and a smile that lit up the room, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Francis graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School (Class of 1958), where he met his high school sweetheart, Maryanne, at sister school Archbishop Prendergast in Drexel Hill, PA. He was a self-made man, working hard to put himself through Villanova University, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance. He furthered his education by studying at Lehigh University and graduating with an MBA from Temple University, all while serving our country in the USMC reserves and starting a family. Providing for his family and instilling an enduring work ethic, fiscal and moral responsibility, and love of family was his greatest joy and life’s mission. He loved being by the ocean and spent many happy times in Seaside Heights and Long Beach Island, NJ.
A dedicated, faithful Catholic, Francis was a devoted parishioner at St. Philomena in Landsdowne, PA, where he was born and raised, St. Helena of Blue Bell, PA, where his children were raised and attended Catholic school, and most recently at Christ the King in Silver Spring, Maryland.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in Garrett Park, Maryland on Friday, January 17, at 11 a.m., with a visitation hour directly before. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Catholic Charities, Holy Cross School or St. Francis of Assisi, Brant Beach, NJ.
